He began his professional career in the insurance industry in Dayton, OH in 1987. He then worked for several years in sales and distribution in the communications industry in various capacities. Most of his professional experience has been in organizations in which he has been successful working in team environments or individually to achieve a common purpose. The tools and techniques he developed from this background apply directly to the skills that have helped him to succeed in his professional career: proven leadership skills, strong organizational skills, critical team-building attributes, the ability to guide and direct the appropriate resources to maximize business capture, providing superior customer service, and client relationship development. He owned and operated his own farming operation from 1999 to 2010.
The last seven years he has worked as an economic development director in a rural regional planning organization, leading the economic development in the areas of agribusiness and entrepreneurship. The organization served six counties in east central Indiana. During his tenure over $750 million dollars was invested in the region in agribusiness. While there he conducted international trade missions, domestic recruitment trips, and planned an international trade mission for local companies to expand their export business.
